Yet every so often, a new arrival creates a genuine buzz. Enter SLS Barcelona, the highly anticipated waterfront resort bringing a fresh dose of glamour, energy, and unapologetic fun to the Catalan capital.

My best friend recently went through a nasty divorce, so naturally, I did what any self-respecting bestie would do: I booked a girls’ getaway to Spain’s latest five-star playground.

Before arriving, I called the hotel and spoke with a lovely manager and absolute rockstar named Paola. I explained that my friend had been through the wringer and was in desperate need of some serious spoiling. Paola assured me she would take care of us, and wow, she really did.

The moment we sashayed into our stunning suite, our jaws hit the floor. We were greeted by a huge balcony overlooking the sleek yachts of the Port Fòrum Marina, with views stretching toward the glittering Mediterranean Sea. It was the sort of view that immediately encourages you to pour a glass of wine, sit back, and postpone all plans indefinitely.

Waiting for us was a beautifully chilled bottle of welcome champagne. But what truly blew me away, and honestly brought a little tear to my friend’s eye, was the heartfelt handwritten note from the hotel team wishing her the fresh start she deserved. In an era where luxury can sometimes feel transactional, this small gesture felt genuinely personal.

If you’re looking for a hotel that nails the Instagram-worthy aesthetic while still possessing a genuine soul, this is it. SLS Barcelona feels refreshingly different from many traditional luxury properties. It embraces bold design, vibrant interiors, and a playful personality. Every corner seems designed to be photographed, from the striking public spaces to the glamorous poolside atmosphere.

One of the hotel’s greatest strengths is the sheer amount it offers under one roof, making it the ultimate all-in-one luxury playground. Guests can unwind at the impressive Halcyon Spa, work out in the state-of-the-art fitness centre, lounge beside multiple outdoor pools, or spend their evenings exploring six distinct restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues.

Of course, as with many newly opened luxury properties, there are still a few teething problems to address. During our stay, service occasionally felt slower than expected in certain areas. The team is incredibly warm and clearly trying their absolute best, but the operational gears are still being greased. Once these minor opening wrinkles are ironed out, this place will be absolutely unstoppable.

For travellers seeking a polished, traditional luxury experience, there are certainly other options in Barcelona. But for those wanting something more vibrant, SLS Barcelona is a fabulous choice despite the minor service hiccups. It’s fun, funky, and unapologetically glamorous. It’s the perfect backdrop for your next Instagram post and a phenomenal base for a luxury getaway.

For my bestie, it was the ultimate dose of spiritual vitamin D, a reminder that life can still be beautiful. Sunshine, laughter, a little indulgence, and the realization that sometimes the best therapy comes with a sea view and a glass of champagne.
