Aside from watches, banks, chocolate and cheese, Switzerland is well known for ski resorts. Unquestionably, the sport is deeply rooted in our culture and arguably part our DNA.

It is not by chance that we have world-class recognition in this sport. If you are about to embark on a ski trip, there is a significant probability that your search will include Switzerland. Here is why:

  1. We have an excellent rail system. That means that whether your arrival is in Geneva or Zurich, the train takes you directly to your ski destination. That’s a bonus for solo travelers and families. For kids, all our long distance, double-decker InterCity trains include a playground family coach.
  2. As you can imagine, luxury hotels are in abundant supply in Switzerland. But while accommodation isn’t known to be cheap, there are quality hotels for every budget. For instance, the St-Luc Wellness Hostel has a swimming pool and spa. I know, right?
  3. I think we can all agree that Switzerland is breathtaking, however, our ski resorts rival paradise. Take for example, Engelberg, the Stand-Titlis (Rotair) cable car that provides a 360-panorama view in a circular revolving cabin. Need I say more?
  4. Have you ever had the urge to push your ski lift because it was going too slow? Well, you’ll probably never experience that feeling in Switzerland. Our state-of-the-art ski lifts serve their primary purpose which is to whisk you away to the ski slopes.
  5. Quality is key. If you’re an experienced skier, you want well-groomed runs like the ones found in Verbier and if you are a novice, you’ll need a qualified instructor. I once brought a friend to Crans-Montana who had never skied, let alone been on a mountain. His experience with conveyor belts and T-bar lifts in addition to a superb instructor, made for a fun and memorable time.
  6. What do Saas-Fee, Zermatt, Murren, Bettmeralp and Stoos have in common? They are all car-free Swiss ski resorts. Saas-Fee just happens to be one of my all-time favorite places to ski. Besides having sentimental value, that’s where my grandfather proposed to my grandmother, I enjoy a hassle-free, no schlepping heavy equipment around town kind of trip. For an extra charge, you can collect and drop your rental skis by the main cable area. Once that’s done, you’re ready to enjoy the many cafes, restaurants, and bars in Saas-Fee.
  7. St. Moritz is the two-time Winter Olympics host and undoubtedly the crème de la crème of Swiss ski resorts. The region offers over 88 perfectly groomed ski runs for every ski level. Other than skiing, St. Moritz has other winter sports that have a rich history in this region. For example, there is the Cresta Run which is the only natural ice skeleton racing toboggan track that features head-first sledding club racers. The St. Moritz Snow Polo is another spectacular sport. Played on a frozen lake, the exclusive sport remains one of the most prestigious winter polo tournaments in the world.

Switzerland has cultivated a culture around skiing. Granted, the natural beauty of our country is on par with only a few places in the world. But what distinguishes us from others, is our reputation for efficiency and outstanding quality. We are proud to be on top of your travel wish list.
